Rabbi Dovid Feinstein (1929-2020) was a highly respected Orthodox Jewish leader and Torah scholar. Born in Lyuban, Poland, he was the son of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein one of the most prominent halachic authorities of the 20th century. Rabbi Feinstein served as the Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim in New York City for many years and was widely regarded as a leading authority on Jewish law and tradition. His defining qualities were his humility, kindness, and devotion to Torah study.
This drawing portrays R' Dovid's reflection of 100,000 Jews seated by the Siyum Hashas, engendering a sense of community and togetherness. Despite the grandeur of his position on the dais, R' Dovid's expression remains humble, capturing his remarkably unpretentious demeanor. The artist's use of highlights to emphasize R' Dovid's shoulders conveys the message that he was a towering figure who carried the mantle of American Jewry on his shoulders. His mastery of Torah is elegantly depicted by his arm extended over a sefer.
